Why UGDC
Pakistan has been experiencing shortages of gas for a long time due to several reasons, including increased demand and depletion of gas reserves by nine percent each year, which has created a mismatch between demand and supply. However, in order to bridge the gap between demand and supply and to revive the gas-starved industry, UGDC was established under the corporate structure, with its main purpose being to act as a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) to import LNG and supply gas to consumers by utilizing the existing network of state-owned gas distribution companies (SSGC & SNGPL) through Gas Transportation Agreements (GTAs).
Since its inception, UGDC has been working hard to revitalize gas starved CNG stations, industrial units, and other gas consumers in Pakistan by importing LNG and utilizing locally extracted gas from wells to protect investments worth millions. UGDC has also been striving to establish a sustainable supply chain for natural gas to mitigate the country’s gas shortfall. One of UGDC’s objectives is to promote the use of environmentally friendly fuel (CNG) over other fuels to protect the environment, ensure emission-free operations, and make significant cuts in the country’s annual fuel import bill.
