Mari Energies Limited has been awarded Pakistan's first private-sector natural gas sale under the government's Third-Party Access Framework, marking a significant milestone in the country's gas market reforms. The company issued a material information notice to the Pakistan Stock Exchange confirming the award for the sale of up to 17.5 MMSCFD of gas from the Spinwam Gas Discovery in the Waziristan Block, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The gas will be supplied to Universal Gas Distribution Company (Private) Limited (UGDC) following a competitive bidding process. The agreement remains subject to regulatory approvals under the Framework for Sale of Gas to Third Parties notified by the Petroleum Division in January 2025.
The development represents Pakistan's first successful implementation of competitive bidding for the direct sale of indigenous natural gas to a private buyer, reflecting ongoing efforts to introduce greater competition and market-based mechanisms into the country's gas sector.
Mari Energies operates the Waziristan Block with a 55% working interest, alongside Oil & Gas Development Company Limited (35%) and Orient Petroleum Inc. (10%). The award is expected to support efficient gas commercialization while advancing reforms aimed at improving investment, competition, and supply security in Pakistan's energy market.
